Ascot Rainbow is new to me. I purchased the plugs from Jolly Farmer in NB. Here’s what Jolly Farmer has to say about it: “Ascot Rainbow has a rainbow of colours in its flowers and foliage. Green-blue and cream variegated leaves deepen to pink and red in cooler temperatures. Cream, blue-green and red bracts. Bushy and compact. Height 20”, Spread 20”. Extremely heat and drought tolerant. Zones 5-9. It has been my experience that deer do not bother anything in the Euphorbia family. I plan to use Rainbow in my Fall bouquets. One plant per 3.5” container.

Elegant Feathers is new to me. I purchased the plugs from Jolly Farmer in NB. Ivan Higgins of Cosby’s Garden Center in Brooklyn, NS grew this last year and I thought it would be nice addition to my bouquets. It’s a super cool plant. The Elegant Fathers growing throughout Ivan’s gardens were as tall as me and soft to the touch. This is what Jolly Farmer has to say about Elegant Feathers: “Accent plant with fine, soft, bright green leaves and small white flowers. Its foliage turns reddish in fall. With an extremely tall, narrow habit, this upright herbaceous plant reaches 6’ tall and 3’ wide. Not invasive.” Annual. I’m excited to try this one! One plant per 3.5” container.

2022 was my first season for growing Kangaroo Paws. They are unique and lovely! They bloom through until frost. Some customers brought them inside and had good luck with over-wintering. I did not start these plants from seed but purchased the plugs from Jolly Farmer in New Brunswick. This is my first year for growing the colour Tequila Sunrise.
Jolly Farmer’s description is as follows: “This unique plant originates from Australia. The flowers show off a velvety tubular on upright fuzzy stems with clumps of sword-like leaves. Plant in 1-2 gallon pots or in your garden. Works well for cut flowers. Attracts birds, bees and butterflies. Height 24””. Drought tolerant. One plant per 3.5” container.

I have grown King Tut grasses for several years and love this little guy. I did not start Little Prince from seed but purchased the plugs from Jolly Farmer in NB. Here’s how they have described Prince Tut: “Extremely versatile annual grass useful for pots, ponds or garden beds. Tolerates a few inches of water if the crown is not drowned. Will adapt to drier conditions. Little Prince is a dwarf variety, very nice in mixed containers. Height 18.” Little Prince looks nice swaying in the wind. One plant per 3.5” container.

Since the deer don’t bother (or at least haven’t yet) nasturtiums, I am trying Phoenix to fill in spaces in my perennial beds that have been destroyed by the deer. I am trailing Phoenix which is described as follows: vine to 6 ft, exotic looking split petals, very bright colours and bi-colours including yellow, orange, apricot, peach and red. Attractive ivy-leaf foliage. Makes a massive statement on trellises or trailing from hanging baskets. For garden, fence, trellis or basket”. I will be interested to hear your thoughts on Phoenix! One plant per 3.5” container.

This is not your regular marigold! I have grown this marigold variety for many seasons as a cut flower. These marigolds grow to 4’ tall with blooms the size of the palm of your hand; approximately 4”-5” in diameter. They make an excellent cut flower with a terrific long vase life. They are heat-loving and disease resistant. Providing support is recommended because the plants are heavy, especially when they are carrying their giant flowers. These would be fantastic in a sheltered, sunny space in your garden. Two plants per 3.5” container.

Few things rival the delicate beauty of a fully blooming Love-In-A-Puff vine. The long, lacey-leaved vines have tiny white blossoms and the most interesting balloon-like green pods that resemble miniature paper lanterns that last for weeks. What is even more magical is that inside each balloon there is a small black seed imprinted with a perfect white heart. The photo to the left is from a customer’s garden. Best grown in a sunny location on a trellis alone so they can show themselves off. Two plants per 3.5” container.

Radiance seed was first gifted to me by Niki Jabbour and it is now a staple! Her blooms dance and glow from a distance on top of 4’ tall plants. Radiance has rose-coloured flowers with a deep crimson eye. She was an AAS Winner in 1948. Provide 12” of space. Two plants per 3.5” container.

Calendula is a staple crop for me and it is one of the prettiest, most sweet-smelling flowers! I like Ivory Princess as her blooms are 2–3" wide, both double and semidouble. Her creamy petals have hints of gold that contrast beautifully with a dark center disk. Once these babies start blooming, they last all season, even after a light frost! The more you cut calendula, the more it will bloom. The scent of both the leaves and flowers is magical. The flower petals are edible. If you have a corner of your garden that you would like to brighten up that won’t require a lot of care, Calendula is a great choice. Plant Height: 18–26". The seeds are very easy to save and the plant will self-seed. Two plants per 3.5” container.

The Tidal Wave Petunias were superstars in 2024! I am excited to be growing these petunias for our community flower bins once again this season. Last year, Tidal Wave Silver and Tidal Wave Cherry put on quite a show and did super well despite the harsh conditions at the Head of the Cove. I am growing Tidal Wave Silver again and will be offering Tidal Wave Red Velour Petunia this year just to change it up. What I love about Tidal Wave: gorgeous colour, vigorous, robust and best of all, dead-heading is not necessary. Once they begin blooming they go hard all season; they were still blooming heavy when I ended the bins on October 15th.
The seed for these plants was purchased from Vesey’s Seeds. Here’s what Vesey’s has to say about Tidal Wave Petunias: “Terrific flower power with oceans of vibrant 2" blooms cover these go-to plants, that do it all. Tidal Wave varieties are resistant to heat and bounce back quickly after rain, making them low maintenance. These fast-growing plants will fill the space available to them, the closer they are planted in a bed the taller they grow. Space at 12” to make a hedge 16-22" of colour, or 24” apart for a ground cover as they will spread up to 5’. They are beautiful planted it hanging baskets or window boxes with their trailing ability. One of the most captivating and versatile classes of annuals that will suit any type of garden theme, style or container. Long lasting blooms attract many beneficials...even hummingbirds!”

This cutie pie annual has a bevy of soft, fuzzy flower heads that become luminous when they catch the sun, highlighting their irresistible soft plumes. They add texture to flower beds and edges in lower fertility, well-drained, even sandy soils. They are perfect fresh or dried and they have been used in many of my wedding arrangements and floral wearables.
Bunny Tails are fun, easy peasy and are a neat, compact grower. Anna loves these little guys! They grow to 1-1.5' tall by 1-1.5' wide. One plant per 3.5” container.

My favourite…a workhorse and delicious! Jewel produces bright, 2" blooms in red, orange and yellow and are held above light green foliage. They have a mounded plant habit. If you have a space that needs brightening up in your garden, nasturtiums are a low-maintenance, excellent choice. Both the flowers and foliage are edible. This is my go-to favourite nasturtium variety.

Sweet Alyssum is a magnet for beneficial insects! It is quick to bloom and is trouble-free. I grow Sweet Alyssum for our community flower bins and in several spaces at home (the deer haven’t bothered it). It holds up well in harsh conditions. It has dense clusters of wonderfully scented small white flowers growing to 8” tall. It does well in containers and in the garden. It blooms all season. Several plants per 3.5” container that can be broken apart and planted around.

Versailles Cosmos are vigorous once they begin to bloom. They are the latest blooming cosmos I grow. Versailles has strong stems but I do recommend staking the plants. Blooms are 2 1/2" across in shades of blush pink, pure white, carmine red, and pink. In my garden, they grow to 7’ tall; requiring me to harvest on my tiptoes. They are true workhorses right through until heavy frost. Give 12” of space in full sun. Two plants per 3.5” container.
